List Of Provincies In Indonesia

As mentioned in my previous article entitled "Introduction To Indonesia Country" that Indonesia has 34 provinces, 415 regencies, 1 administration regency, 93 cities And 5 administration cities, which spread from the western tip of Indonesia (Sabang) to the eastern tip of Indonesia (Merauke). Province (level I region) is an area or a territory that is one level below the state, led by a governor. For each provinces in Indonesia are devided into several cities and regency (level II region). Then cities and regency are split into several district, we call it "kecamatan" (level III region).

In this article, I will give the list of 34 provinces in Indonesia starting from the westernmost regions of Indonesia to the easternmost regions. In this article, I will only mention the names of the provinces with little explanation about the capital of those province and the number of cities and regencies in those provinces.

Here are the list of 34 province in Indonesia :

1. Aceh Province (Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam)

Aceh is one of provinces in Indonesia located on Sumatra island, more precisely in the westernmost part of Sumatra island. There are 23 total cities and regencies in Aceh province. 18 of them are regencies, and the remaining 5 are cities.

2. North Sumatra Province

North Sumatra is one of provinces in Indonesia. Same as Aceh, North Sumatra is also located on Sumatra island. In the map, it is below Aceh provinces. The capital city of North Sumatra province is Medan. There are 33 total cities and regencies in North Sumatera province. 25 of them are regencies and the remaining 8 are cities.

3. West Sumatra Province

West Sumatra is one of provinces in Indonesia. Same as Aceh and North Sumatra, West Sumatra is also located on Sumatra island. The capital city of West Sumatra province is Padang. There are 19 total cities and regencies in West Sumatera province. 12 of them are regencies and the remaining 7 are cities.

4. Riau Province

Riau is one of provinces in Indonesia. Same as Aceh and North Sumatra, Riau is also located on Sumatra island. The capital city of Riau province is Pekanbaru. There are 12 total cities and regencies in Riau province. 10 of them are regencies and the remaining 2 are cities.

5. Riau Island (Kepulauan Riau) Province

Riau Island (Bahasa Indonesia = Kepulauan Riau) is one of provinces in Indonesia. The capital city of Riau Island province is Tanjungpinang. There are 7 total cities and regencies in Riau Island province. 5 of them are regencies and the remaining 2 are cities.

6. Jambi Province

Jambi is one of provinces in Indonesia. Same as Aceh and North Sumatra, Jambi is also located on Sumatra island. The capital city of Jambi province is Jambi city. Yes, the capital city name is same like the province name. There are 11 total cities and regencies in Jambi province. 9 of them are regencies and the remaining 2 are cities.

13. DKI (Special Capital Region) Jakarta Province

DKI Jakarta is a bit different than other provinces that mentioned in this article. DKI Jakarta is actually a city, but its position is on same level as the province. Name of "DKI" is an abbreviation from Bahasa Indonesia, "Daerah Khusus Ibukota" which means "Special Capital Region". There is no capital city of DKI Jakarta province, because DKI Jakarta itself is the capital city of Indonesia country. There are 6 total administration cities and administration regencies in DKI Jakarta province. 5 of them are administration cities and the remaining is administration regency.

14. Central Java Province

Central Java is one of provinces in Indonesia which located on Java Island. The capital city of Central Java province is Semarang. There are 35 total cities and regencies in Central Java province. 29 of them are regencies and the remaining 6 are cities.

DI Yogyakarta is one of provinces in Indonesia which located on Java Island.
