As already mentioned in my article entitled "List Of Province In Indonesia" that the province of West Sumatra is divided into 19 cities and regencies. Where 12 of them are regencies and the remaining 7 are cities. In this article, I will give you the list of those cities and regencies existing in West Sumatra province. But, let me tell you first what is the differences between city and regency. Briefly, the differences between cities and regencies can be seen from the life of the residents, where the residents of a city are usually more develop than the resident of a regency. Other than that, there are still some point that becomes differences between city and regency.
Here are the difference between city and regency that I present in table form:

1. Agam Regency
Agam Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Lubuk Basung. Agam Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Indra Catri. Agam Regency has an area of 2232 km2 which divided into 16 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 16 districts are then divided again into 82 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
2. Dharmasraya Regency
Dharmasraya Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Pulau Punjung. Dharmasraya Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Sutan Riska Tuanku Kerajaan. Dharmasraya Regency has an area of 3346 km2 which divided into 4 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 4 districts are then divided again into 109 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
3. Mentawai Island (Kepulauan Mentawai) Regency
Mentawai Island Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Tuapejat. Mentawai Island Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Yudas Sabaggalet. Mentawai Island Regency has an area of 6011 km2 which divided into 4 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 4 districts are then divided again into 43 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
4. Lima Puluh Kota Regency
Lima Puluh Kota Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Sarilamak. Lima Puluh Kota Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Irfendi Arbi. Lima Puluh Kota Regency has an area of 3355 km2 which divided into 13 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 13 districts are then divided again into 180 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
5. Padang Pariaman Regency
Padang Pariaman Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Parit Malintang. Padang Pariaman is currently led by a regent which name is Ali Mukhni. Padang Pariaman Regency has an area of 1329 km2 which divided into 17 districts (we call it "kecamatan").
6. Pasaman Regency
Pasaman Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Lubuk Sikaping. Pasaman Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Yusuf Lubis. Pasaman Regency has an area of 3948 km2 which divided into 12 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 12 districts are then divided again into 211 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
7. West Pasaman Regency
West Pasaman Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Simpang Ampek. West Pasaman Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Syahiran. West Pasaman Regency has an area of 3888 km2 which divided into 11 districts (we call it "kecamatan").
8. Pesisir Selatan Regency
Pesisir Selatan Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Painan. Pesisir Selatan Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Hendrajoni. Pesisir Selatan Regency has an area of 5795 km2 which divided into 12 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 12 districts are then divided again into 76 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
9. Sinjunjung Regency
Sijunjung Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Muaro Sijunjung. Sijunjung Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Yuswir Arifin. Sijunjung Regency has an area of 2746 km2 which divided into 8 districts (we call it "kecamatan").
10. Solok Regency
Solok Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Arosuka. Solok Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Gusmal. Solok Regency has an area of 3875 km2 which divided into 14 districts (we call it "kecamatan").
11. South Solok Regency
South Solok Regency is one of regencies in West Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Padang Aro. South Solok Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Muzni Zakaria. South Solok Regency has an area of 3209 km2 which divided into 7 districts (we call it "kecamatan").
12. Tanah Datar Regency
Tanah Datar Regency is one of regencies in Aceh province whose its central goverment located in Batu Sangkar. Tanah Datar Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Irdinansyah Tarmizi. Tanah has an area of 1337 km2 which divided into 14 districts (we call it "kecamatan").
13. Bukittinggi City
Bukittinggi City is one of cities in West Sumatra province. Bukittinggi City is currently led by a mayor which name is Ramlan Nurmatias. Bukittinggi has an area of 25,24 km2 which divided into 3 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 3 districts are then divided again into 24 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
14. Padang City
Padang City is one of cities in West Sumatra province. Padang City is currently led by a mayor which name is Mahyeldi Ansharullah. Padang has an area of 694 km2 which divided into 11 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 11 districts are then divided again into 104 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
15. Padang Panjang City
Padangpanjang City is one of cities in West Sumatra province. Padangpanjang City is currently led by a mayor which name is Hendri Arnis. Lhokseumawe has an area of 23 km2 which divided into 2 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 2 districts are then divided again into 19 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
16. Pariaman City
Pariaman City is one of cities in West Sumatra province. Pariaman City is currently led by a mayor which name is Muhlis Ramlan. Pariaman has an area of 73,36 km2 which divided into 4 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 4 districts are then divided again into 71 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
17. Payakumbuh City
Payakumbuh City is one of cities in West Sumatra province. Payakumbuh City is currently led by a mayor which name is Riza Falepi. Payakumbuh has an area of 80,43 km2 which divided into 5 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 5 districts are then divided again into 76 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

Solok City is one of cities in West Sumatra province. Solok City is currently led by a mayor which name is Zul Elfian. Solok City has an area of 57,64 km2 which divided into 2 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 2 districts are then divided again into 13 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
