As already mentioned in my article entitled "List Of Province In Indonesia" that the province of South Sumatra Island is divided into 17 cities and regencies. Where 13 of them are regencies and the remaining 4 are cities. In this article, I will give you the list of those cities and regencies existing in South province. But, let me tell you first what is the differences between city and regency. Briefly, the differences between cities and regencies can be seen from the life of the residents, where the residents of a city are usually more develop than the resident of a regency. Other than that, there are still some point that becomes differences between city and regency.
Here are the difference between city and regency that I present in table form:

1. Banyuasin Regency
Banyuasin Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Pangkalan Balai. Banyuasin is currently led by a regent which name is Suman Asra Supiono. Banyuasin Regency has an area of 11.833 km2 which divided into 22 districts (we call it "kecamatan").
2. Empat Lawang Regency
Empat Lawang Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Tebing Tinggi. Empat Lawang Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Syahril Hanafiah. Empat Lawang Regency has an area of 2256 km2 which divided into 10 districts (we call it "kecamatan").
3. Lahat Regency
Lahat Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Lahat district. Lahat Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Saifudin Aswari Rifai. Lahat Regency has an area of 4361 km2 which divided into 22 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 22 districts are then divided again into 527 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
4. Muara Enim Regency
Muara Enim Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Muara Enim district. Muara Enim Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Muzakir Sai Sohar. Muara Enim Regency has an area of 7483 km2 which divided into 20 districts (we call it "kecamatan").
5. Musi Banyuasin Regency
Musi Banyuasin Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Sekayu district. Musi Banyuasin Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Dodi Reza Alex Noerdin. Musi Banyuasin Regency has an area of 14266 km2 which divided into 14 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 11 districts are then divided again into 218 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
6. Musi Rawas Regency
Musi Rawas Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Muara Beliti Baru. Musi Rawas Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Hendra Gunawan. Musi Rawas Regency has an area of 6357 km2 which divided into 14 districts (we call it "kecamatan").

North Musi Rawas Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Rupit. Those 7 districts are then divided again into 89 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
8. Ogan Ilir Regency
Ogan Ilir Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Indralaya. Ogan Ilir Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Ilyas Panji Alam. Ogan Ilir Regency has an area of 2382 km2 which divided into 16 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 16 districts are then divided again into 241 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
9. Ogan Komering Ilir Regency
Ogan Komering Ilir Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Kota Kayu Agung. Ogan Komering Ilir Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Iskandar. Ogan Komering Ilir Regency has an area of 19.023 km2 which divided into 18 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 18 districts are then divided again into 327 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
10. Ogan Komering Ulu Regency
Ogan Komering Ulu Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Baturaja. Ogan Komering Ulu Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Kuryana Aziz. Ogan Komering Ulu Regency has an area of 3617 km2 which divided into 13 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 13 districts are then divided again into 157 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
11. East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency
East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Martapura. East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency is currently led by a regent which name is M. Kholid Mawardi. East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency has an area of 3410 km2 which divided into 20 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 20 districts are then divided again into 332 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
12. South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency
South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Muara Dua. South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Popo Ali Martopo. South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency has an area of 5493 km2 which divided into 19 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 19 districts are then divided again into 116 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
13. Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency
Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency is one of regencies in South Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Talang Ubi. Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Heri Armalindo. Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency has an area of 1840 km2 which divided into 5 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 5 districts are then divided again into 71 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
14. Lubuklinggau City
Lubuklinggau City is the one of cities in South Sumatra province. Lubuklinggau is currently led by a mayor which name is SN Prana Putra Sohe. Lubuklinggau City has an area of 401,5 km2 which divided into 8 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 8 districts are then divided again into 72 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
15. Pagar Alam City
Pagar Alam City is the one of cities in South Sumatra province. Pagar Alam is currently led by a mayor which name is Ida Fitriati Basjuni. Pagar Alam City has an area of 633,6 km2 which divided into 5 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 5 districts are then divided again into 35 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
16. Palembang City
Palembang is the one of cities in South Sumatra province. Palembang is currently led by a mayor which name is Harnojoyo. Palembang City has an area of 358,5 km2 which divided into 18 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 18 districts are then divided again into 107 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
17. Prabumulih City
Prabumulih is the one of cities in South Sumatra province. Prabumulih is currently led by a mayor which name is Ridho Yahya. Prabumulih City has an area of 435,1 km2 which divided into 6 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 6 districts are then divided again into 37 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
