List Of Cities And Regencies In North Sumatra Province

As already mentioned in my article entitled "List Of Province In Indonesia" that North Sumatra Province is divided into 33 cities and regencies. Where 25 of them are regencies and the remaining 8 are cities. In this article, I will give you the list of those cities and regencies existing in North Sumatra province. But, let me tell you first what is the differences between city and regency. Briefly, the differences between cities and regencies can be seen from the life of the residents, where the residents of a city are usually more develop than the resident of a regency. Other than that, there are still some point that becomes differences between city and regency.

Here are the difference between city and regency that I present in table form:

That's some difference between city and regency. Now, we go back to the main point, "List of cities and regencies in North Sumatra province". Here it is :

1. Asahan Regency 

Asahan Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Kisaran. Asahan is currently led by a regent which name is Taufan Gama Simaptupang. Asahan has an area of 3702 km2 which divided into 25 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 25 districts are then divided again into 204 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

2. Batubara Regency 

Batubara Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Limapuluh. Batubara Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Harry Nugroho. Batubara Regency has an area of 922 km2 which divided into 7 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 7 districts are then divided again into 151 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

3. Dairi Regency 

Dairi Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Sidikalang. Dairi Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Johnny Sitohang Adinegoro. Dairi  Regency has an area of 1927 km2 which divided into 15 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 15 districts are then divided again into 169 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

4. Deli Serdang Regency 

Deli Serdang Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Lubuk Pakam. Deli Serdang Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Ashari Tambunan. Deli Serdang Regency has an area of 2241 km2 which divided into 22 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 22 districts are then divided again into 394 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

5. Humbang Hasundutan Regency 

Humbang Hasundutan Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Dolok Sanggul. Humbang Hasundutan is currently led by a regent which name is Dosmar Banjarnahor. Humbang Hasundutan has an area of 2335 km2 which divided into 10 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 10 districts are then divided again into 154 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

6. Karo Regency 

Karo Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Kabanjahe. Karo Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Terkelin Brahmana. Karo has an area of 2127 km2 which divided into 17 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 17 districts are then divided again into 269 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

7. Labuhanbatu Regency 

Labuhanbatu Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Rantau Prapat. Labuhanbatu Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Pangonal Harahap. Labuhanbatu Regency has an area of 2156 km2 which divided into 9 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 9 districts are then divided again into 98 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

8. North Labuhanbatu Regency 

North Labuhanbatu Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Aek Kanopan. North Labuhanbatu is currently led by a regent which name is Khairudiin Syah Sitorus. North Labuhanbatu Regency has an area of 3570 km2 which divided into 8 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 8 districts are then divided again into 90 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

9. South Labuhanbatu Regency 

South Labuhanbatu Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Kota Pinang. South Labuhanbatu Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Wildan Aswan Tanjung. South Labuhanbau Regency has an area of 3596 km2 which divided into 5 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 5 districts are then divided again into 54 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

10. Langkat Regency 

Langkat Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Stabat. Langkat Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Hasballah Ngogesa Sitepu. Langkat Regency has an area of 6262 km2 which divided into 23 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 23 districts are then divided again into 277 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

11. Mandailing Natal Regency 

Mandailing Natal Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in panyabungan. Mandailing Natal is currently led by a regent which name is Dahlan Hasan Nasution. Mandailing Natal has an area of 6134 km2 which divided into 23 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 23 districts are then divided again into 407 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

12. Nias Regency 

Nias Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Gido. Nias Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Sokhiatulo Laoli. Nias has an area of 1842 km2 which divided into 10 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 10 districts are then divided again into 170 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

13. West Nias Regency 

West Nias Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Lahomi. West Nias is currently led by a regent which name is Faduhusi Daely. West Nias has an area of 473 km2 which divided into 8 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 8 districts are then divided again into 105 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

14. South Nias Regency 

South Nias Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Teluk Dalam. South Nias Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Hilarius Duha. South Nias has an area of 1825 km2 which divided into 35 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 35 districts are then divided again into 460 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

15. North Nias Regency 

North Nias Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Lotu. North Nias Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Marselinus Ingati Nazara. North Nias has an area of 1202 km2 which divided into 11 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 11 districts are then divided again into 113 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

16. Padang Lawas Regency 

Padang Lawas is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Sibuhuan. Padang Lawas Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Ali Sutan Harahap. Padang Lawas has an area of 3892 km2 which divided into 12 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 12 districts are then divided again into 304 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

17. Pakpak Bharat Regency 

Pakpak Bharat Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Meureudu. Pakpak Bharat Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Aiyub Abbas. Pakpak Bharat has an area of 1073 km2 which divided into 8 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 8 districts are then divided again into 215 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

18. North Padang Lawas Regency 

North Padang Lawas Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Salak. North Padang Lawas Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Remigo Yolando Berutu. North Padang Lawas has an area of 1218 km2 which divided into 8 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 8 districts are then divided again into 52 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

19. Samosir Regency 

Samosir Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Pangururan. Samosir Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Rapidin Simbolon. Samosir has an area of 2069 km2 which divided into 9 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 9 districts are then divided again into 134 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

20. Serdang Bedagai Regency 

Serdang Bedagai Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Sei Rampah. Serdang Bedagai Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Soekirman. Serdang Bedagai has an area of 1900 km2 which divided into 17 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 17 districts are then divided again into 243 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

21. Simalungun Regency 

Simalungun Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Raya. Simalungun Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Jopinus Ramli Saragih. Simalungun has an area of 4386 km2 which divided into 31 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 31 districts are then divided again into 413 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

22. South Tapanuli Regency 

South Tapanuli Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Sipirok. South Tapanuli Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Syahrul M Pasaribu. South Tapanuli has an area of 6030 km2 which divided into 14 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 14 districts are then divided again into 248 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

23. North Tapanuli Regency 

North Tapanuli Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Tarutung. North Tapanuli Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Bakhtiar Ahmad Sibarani. North Tapanuli has an area of 3791 km2 which divided into 15 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 15 districts are then divided again into 252 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

24. Central Tapanuli Regency 

Central Tapanuli Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Pandan. Central Tapanuli Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Bakhtiar Ahmad Sibarani. Central Tapanuli has an area of 2188 km2 which divided into 20 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 20 districts are then divided again into 215 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

25. Toba Samosir Regency 

Toba Samosir Regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra province whose its central goverment located in Balige. Toba Samosir Regency is currently led by a regent which name is Darwin Siagian. Toba Samosir has an area of 2328 km2 which divided into 16 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 15 districts are then divided again into 244 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

26. Binjai City

Binjai City is one of cities in North Sumatra province. Binjai City is currently led by a mayor which name is Muhammad Idaham. Binjai has an area of 59 km2 which divided into 5 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 5 districts are then divided again into 37 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

27. Gunungsitoli City

Gunungsitoli City is one of cities in North Sumatra province. Gunungsitoli City is currently led by a mayor which name is Lakhomizaro Zebua. Gunungsitoli has an area of 280 km2 which divided into 6 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 6 districts are then divided again into 101 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

28. Medan City

Medan City is one of cities in North Sumatra province. Medan City is currently led by a mayor which name is Dzulmi Eldin. Medan has an area of 265 km2 which divided into 21 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 21 districts are then divided again into 151 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

29. Padangsidempuan City

Padangsidempuan City is one of cities in North Sumatra province. Padangsidempuan City is currently led by a mayor which name is Andar Amin Harahap. Padangsidempuan has an area of 114 km2 which divided into 6 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 6 districts are then divided again into 79 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

30. Pematangsiantar City

Pematangsiantar City is one of cities in North Sumatra province. Pematangsiantar City is currently led by a mayor which name is Hefriansyah. Pematangsiantar has an area of 55 km2 which divided into 8 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 8 districts are then divided again into 53 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

31. Sibolga City

Sibolga City is one of cities in North Sumatra province. Sibolga City is currently led by a mayor which name is Syarfi Hutahuruk. Sibolga has an area of 41 km2 which divided into 4 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 4 districts are then divided again into 17 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

32. Tanjungbalai City

Tanjungbalai City is one of cities in North Sumatra province. Tanjungbalai City is currently led by a mayor which name is M. Syahhrial. Padangsidempuan has an area of 107 km2 which divided into 6 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 6 districts are then divided again into 31 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").

33. Tebingtinggi City

Tebingtinggi City is one of cities in North Sumatra province. Tebingtinggi City is currently led by a mayor which name is Umar Zunaidi Hasibuan. Tebingtinggi has an area of 31 km2 which divided into 5 districts (we call it "kecamatan"). Those 5 districts are then divided again into 35 sub-district (we call it "kelurahan/desa").
